Songs And Stories Podcast

Aloha Ya'll- last week I did a phone interview with Big Island Music's very own Steve Roby. We talked about songwriting, the local music scene, my musical journey to date, writing songs on Music Row with big hit songwriters, my upcoming record- li' dat. The podcast will be available in early September and will include the title track from my upcoming record "The Devils Footprints" as well as a song I recorded last year in Nashville called  "Cool Little Town". It's for sure weird having a conversation knowing that it's going to be out there in the world for people to listen to  and I probably said some dumb things that I'm gonna cringe a little when I hear but whatever I enjoyed doing it- hope you enjoy listening to it!

The Big "WHY"

Aloha Ya'll- welcome to my first blog post!

Like so many of us the COVID pandemic has forced me to reevaluate my priorities. I've been a "serious" songwriter since I was a teenager and "professional" songwriter since I signed my first publishing deal about 15 years ago. I have been chasing that Nashville dream of major label cuts since then. It's been an amazing, challenging and demanding ride- one that I am beyond grateful for- but- like I said- time to reevaluate.

If things ever get back to "normal" I hope to find myself back in those writing rooms and studios in Nashville, LA and Austin but for now I'm working with local musicians, as well as some players I know from around the world and making what is turning out to be a pretty cool little acoustic record of my own and it feels great!. I'm trying to keep it as honest as possible, I'm resisting the impulse to rub all the grit off of it, I'm releasing songs that truly mean something to me- songs that I've held on to-in some cases for decades. In truth- some of these songs are songs that no one else wanted (at least so far)-songs that major artists, A&R, label heads, producers etc. have, in many cases, passed on. I'm coming to realize that's because these stories aren't theirs to tell - they're mine. And I don't know who out there needs to hear these stories but I know I need to tell them. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!-   stay tuned- and thanks for being part of this next chapter of my story!
