Don May crafts music steeped in the authentic grit of Americana, creating songs that resonate with raw, honest emotion. A sixth-generation Texan, and kin to country music icon Lefty Frizzell, his musical roots run deep into the heart of Texas. His journey began amidst the vibrant energy of Austin’s live music scene - gritty, unpolished, and pulsating with authentic artistry. From pounding out rock tunes in Texas to spending over a decade as a staff songwriter for Sony/ATV in Nashville, he honed his songwriting craft with top artists and friends, all while feeling the pull to write on his own terms. Today, Don May is back to doing just that: writing, recording, and producing under his own label, Kharmadillo Records. His music is a fusion of soulful, organic sounds, rich with acoustic, bottleneck and electric guitars, and the Hammond organ, recorded without digital tricks. Driven by a profound belief that our scars and struggles bind us to each other and to something larger, Don May’s songs invite listeners to find solace in shared wounds and purpose in resilience. He isn’t chasing trends - he’s creating music that’s raw, resonant, and unapologetically true to his voice.
